3 Day Chimpanzee Trekking Trip
Day 1: Travel to Murchison Falls National Park and Budongo Forest
- Make your way from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park. This can be done by either private car (about a 5-hour drive) or by taking a flight to Pakuba airstrip, which is located within the park.
- Upon arrival at the park, check into your lodge or campsite. There are a variety of accommodation options to choose from, ranging from budget-friendly campsites to luxurious lodges.
- In the afternoon, take a boat trip on the Victoria Nile River to the base of the mighty Murchison Falls. This is a great way to see some of the park's wildlife, such as crocodiles, hippos, and elephants.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest
- Rise early for a morning briefing by a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) guide. You will learn about the chimpanzees in Budongo Forest, their behavior, and how to track them safely.
- Head into Budongo Forest on foot with your guide and a group of other trackers. The trek can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on how long it takes to find the chimpanzees.
- In the afternoon, take a nature walk to the top of the Murchison Falls, where you'll experience the breathtaking sight of the Nile River squeezing through a narrow gorge and dropping down with a thunderous roar.
- Once you find the chimpanzees, you will have an hour to observe them in their natural habitat. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these intelligent creatures up close.
Day 3: Relax and explore Murchison Falls National Park
- After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely morning at your lodge or campsite. You can go for a swim, do some bird watching, or simply relax and take in the beautiful scenery.
- In the afternoon, go on a game drive in the park. This is another great way to see some of Murchison Falls' wildlife, such as lions, giraffes, and buffaloes.
- In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at your lodge or campsite and reflect on your amazing chimpanzee trekking experience.
